Buddha Jayanti The Buddha Jayanti is celebrated during the month of May, on the Baisakh Purnima (full moon day). It is believed that Buddha was born, enlightened and passed away on the same full moon day. Thus, the festival Buddha Jayanti came to be celebrated. This is especially celebrated in the town Bodh Gaya and Rajgir. This day marks the day of prayer and celebration at the Mahabodhi Temple.This just shows how great the culture of Bihar really is. CHHATH PUJA  Chhath puja is the most famous and original celebrated festival among the many fairs and festivals of Bihar. It is an ancient Hindu festival in the worship of ‘Surya’, the sun deity. It is celebrated 6 days after Diwali in worship and honoring the sun for its sustenance and blessings. The observers of the puja perform fasts and prayers and distribute sweets, kheer (rice pudding), and fruits. One witnesses the true spirit of the festival when thousands of devotees gather on the banks of the holy Ganges river before sunrise for the conclusion of Chatth puja. MAKAR SANKRANTI Makar Sankranti is the harvest festival of Bihar, similar to Pongal in South India, Lohri in North India, and Bihu in Assam. Makar sankranti  Makar Sankranti is the harveat festival of Bihar. Similar to pongal in South India and Lohri in North India, Makar-Sankranti, known as Tila Sankrant in Bihar incorporates religious as well as mythological significance. Every year in january, Makar Sankranti mela is held at Rajgir. During this festival , devotees offer flowers to yhe deities in the temples and take a dip in the holy water of hot springs. Another part of Bihar that lies in the Banke district celebrates the festival by organizing a massive fair at Mandar Hills.
